Internship

What better way to learn about the museum field than to experience it up close and behind–the–scene? The Blanton Museum of Art awards a variety of formal and informal internships for University of Texas students and non–students. Blanton interns gain experience and knowledge within the museum environment and work on meaningful projects under the guidance of museum professionals. The Blanton welcomes and encourages students from all backgrounds to apply and is dedicated to developing a culturally diverse internship program.

A variety of internship opportunities are available in the following departments:

  • Development
  • Museum Education
  • Visitor Services
  • Public Relations and Marketing
  • Special Events
  • Prints and Drawings
  • Latin American Art
  • American and Contemporary Art
  • Registration
  • Installation

For UT graduate students only, the Blanton awards part–time, paid, year–long internships. Blanton Graduate Internships run with the academic calendar, beginning each fall and continuing through the spring and summer semesters. Some graduate student interns, as university employees, are eligible to participate in group insurance programs and may qualify for certain other benefits in accordance with existing university policies.

B) Academic Internship (pdf – download adobe reader)

For graduate and undergraduate students at UT, the Blanton awards part–time, unpaid, semester–long internships for course credit. Blanton Academic Internships run with the academic calendar and are available during the Fall/Spring long–session and summer sessions. Students are responsible for obtaining departmental and faculty approval for course credit in their major field.

C) Special Project Internships (pdf – download adobe reader)

For non-UT students, or UT students who will not receive course credit, the Blanton occasionally offers informal, unpaid internships. Special Project Internships require a minimum commitment of 140 hours, and are available year round. Special project internships open up periodically based on departmental needs. Applicants are also invited to propose their own projects for departmental consideration. If a proposed project meets departmental objectives, an internship will be created for that individual.
