The Blanton Block Party is BACK!

Join us for a free day-to-night community festival to kick off Spring and celebrate the big changes on our block. Explore the epic exhibition ’Words/Matter: Latin American Art and Language at the Blanton’and be inspired by the creative ways artists have merged visual art and language.

The Blanton Block Party is the perfect fusion of live music and world-class art, providing outdoor family art activities, local food, and tours throughout the day.

PERFORMANCES: Enjoy a variety of spoken-word performances and poetry readings in between live music sets from a selection of Austin music favorites including *Black Fret grant recipients.

ART ACTIVITIES: Get creative and participate in a variety of activities throughout the museum including Industry Print Shop bandana printing, The Dirty Easel painting, and outdoor family programs. We’ll also be applying ’Words/Matter’-themed temporary tattoos while supplies last!

TOURS: Drop by our Visitor Services Desk and pick up a ticket for a guided tour of the exhibition “Words/Matter: Latin American Art and Language at the Blanton’ and/or ’Follow the Leader.’ Tour times start at 12pm every hour with the last tour taking place at 7pm.

FOOD / DRINK: Enjoy tasty bites for purchase from Pueblo Viejo and TLV Israeli Street Food, or satisfy your sweet tooth with treats from Pinkberry. The Blanton Café will also provide a variety of choices, and drinks will be available for purchase via The North Door. Cash or credit is accepted.

The Blanton is located at the intersection of Congress Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

PARKING / TRANSPORT: Special event parking is available in the Blanton/Brazos Garage on Brazos Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Parking is $5, payable in cash upon entry to Brazos Garage.

Bicycle stations will be available on-site (and throughout UT) for those on two wheels. Scooter-users please dismount and park scooters at designated bicycle stations.

Capital Metro will also be providing two special #TransitAdventures, picking up registered passengers from Northcross Station-Southbound or Wheatsville Co-op South for their free ride. Click on this link to learn more and register → https://bit.ly/2FcffSf

Tips for your museum visit (you can read our full visitor guidelines here):

  • Please do not touch the art on display.  This includes the wood totem and marble panels located inside Ellsworth Kelly’s ’Austin.’
  • Please no food or beverages in the galleries and ’Austin.’
  • Bags and diaper bags larger than 11”x15” and all backpacks need to be checked into complimentary lockers located in Michener Gallery Building.  No backpacks allowed in galleries and ’Austin.’
  • Service animals only are permitted inside the museum.

Please note that the galleries and ’Austin’ close at 10:30 p.m.
